SAKU SUB COUNTY

THURSDAY 23/02/2023

Early Childhood Development Centers (ECDs)  in Marsabit County will receive Ksh 17 million school-feeding programme for over 21,000 learners across the county that will offer them nutritional support for pupils in over 350 institutions.

The feeding programme which was flagged off by the deputy governor last week has so far seen the ECDs in Saku and Moyale receive their ratio.

Speaking in Saku Sub County on Thursday when she received a second consignment  of 25 tonnes of corn soya porridge destined for North Horr and Laisamis sub counties, county executive committee member for education, skills development, youths and sport Mrs. Ambaro Abdullahi  said all learners in public ECDs will benefit from the project.

The CECM added that the county was trying to alleviate the economic burden of feeding young learners from parents when they were in school and to cushion them against malnutrition.

Madam Ambaro confirmed that her department has received 55 tonnes of fortified corn soya porridge that is expected to take the learners for the whole of the first term.

She said the feeding programme will in the long run ensure that no child goes hungry in school thereby encouraging the enrollment of new learners, improving attendance and performance.

She further revealed that Governor Mohamud M. Ali  has rolled out and implemented a massive ECD infrastructural facelift over the last five years by improving the learning environment through the construction of classrooms, toilets, recruitment of additional teachers and providing learning materials.
